Essential Glossary: Common Essential Oil Terms Explained
If you are new to Essential Oils, you may have come across a few terms that have left you scratching your head. We present to you the essential oil glossary, complete with definitions to help demystify essential oil lingo.Carrier Oil: A base oil used to dilute essential oils before they are applied to the skin. Variations include fractionated coconut oil, jojoba oil, olive oil, sunflower oil, and vegetable oil.
CPTG: Abbreviation for Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade, dōTERRA’s standard for quality.
Diffuse: To spread out or disperse over a large area.

Diffuser: A special air pump designed to distribute essential oils into a micro-fine vapor where they stay suspended for a time to reduce airborne infectious pathogens, fungus, mold, and freshen the air with natural fragrances. Essential oils are more easily absorbed into the body through this process.
Empty Capsule: A capsule made from either a gelatin or vegetable-based substance that is ready to fill with essential oils and herbs for internal consumption.
EO: Abbreviation for essential oils. Typically uppercase.
Essential Oil Pendant Diffuser: Made from an absorbent surface such as terra cotta or dolomite. Essential oils are added and absorbed to give fragrance to the wearer.
FCO: Abbreviation for fractionated coconut oil. Not to be confused with unrefined coconut oil for cooking.
LLV: Abbreviation for Lifelong Vitality, a daily
